March 3, 2026 School Council Meeting Minutes

  1. School Administration Updates Mr. Williams and Ms. Antonakis
    1) Welcome speech by Ms. Antonakis
    2) Approval of Minutes
    3) Swiss Chalet - in communication to determine a date
    4) Art night was successful. next one for late May/early Jun
    5) Pavement Only Recesses - safety and protect the fields
    6) Yearbook - to be done
    7) School Musical - Thursday May 21, 2026
    8) Entrance Display - by Joanne, Ling,... thank you for the amazing display
    9) The showcase display might continue for multicultural celebration. - Ms Antonakis. Lunar New Year celebration at school. Giving ideas for upcoming different celebrations of different cultures. More support needed from different families.
    10) Financial Status
          Any fundraising needs to be spent during the school year. Unless it is saved for some long term project like the outdoor classroom before.

     

  2. School Council Updates
             1) AI learning updates - KW.
                   ● The council approved the expenditure for the Lego which was purchased and being used in the library now. The students are enjoying themselves now.Climate Change Kits are being introduced into the classroom.
                   ● The afterschool STEM project is ready to start after March Break. - every Wed evening. Initial scope of 25 students from G3 to G6
                   ● Lego Robotics Clubs - established 2 robotics teams.
                   ● DriverGears - first tech challenge team. To mentor and support students in STEM club - TBD
             2) Book Exchange - Michelle
                   ● Mar 26, 2026 – any used book at home. You can bring them in, they will be placed together, and you can pick whatever you want. If those books don't get picked up, we take a look at them and see if they are appropriate for our collec                     tion, if not we will donate.
                      QA: Can we make this a year-round event to exchange the book? – yes, and TBD.
             3) Social Media Issue Updates - Michelle.
                   ● Signs can be changed for time to 8:45am - Mr. Williams
                   ● A Kiss and Ride message emailed to parents on Feb 4, 2026.
                   ● The Wechat group posted the notification regarding social media privacy concerns.
                   ● Mr. Williams has reached out with YRP asking them to send someone to the area randomly.
             4) Pizza – All good.

                 Mr. Williams - one day the pizza burned at the bottom. The pizza company was very responsible and replaced it immediately.
             5) Movie Night - Josephine.
                         High school volunteer - contacted by Ling
                         Parents volunteer - 4 to 5 needed from 5:30pm
             6) Fun Fair - Josephine
                         90% vendors are confirmed. More details in May.
                         Lots of teachers and students are interested in participating.
             7) Science Fair - Arvin Apr 9, 2026.
                         4-6 parent volunteers, high school students are also needed.
             8) Transaction to High School - Michelle – working in progress

 

     3. New Topic - Art Nights - Serena/Michelle
                 1) Art nights are remarkable events for the community and all students. It was very good but we could improve it by putting some creative thoughts on stage setting and crowd control.
                 2) Last art night was crowded. Ask if we can use can use the real stage next time - Mr. William: The school is actually working on it and will be used on next art night.
                 3) Shows some pictures for the previous art night stage layout and suggests putting the performance in the middle.
                 4) About Dismissal, do the students have to go back to the classroom for parents’ pickup. – Mr. Williams, based on previous experience, is better in that way, otherwise will create more mess and could lose control.
                 5) Separate grades in two nights helped the crowd control a lot. Due to school facility management, art nights can be only on Thu.
                 6) Parents want the art night to be more formal and they could take more beautiful photos of their kids – Suggestion: get one or two professional photographers for the events - Mr. Williams: could think of it.
